Uncharted

Uncharted

An exhibition of altered sea charts, paintings, prints and papercuts by Julia McKenzie that explore the extraordinary 1890’s transatlantic sea diaries of her Cornish great grandfather, John Henry Lowry.

The coasts, trade winds and currents have all helped create this exhibition, to chart the unchartered, noting glimpses and fragments of the past to help reflect upon now and tomorrow.

Accompanying paintings by Robert McKenzie responding to themes of ocean, time and memory.

SANCTUARY

Sanctuary

Delighted to have two paintings in this brilliant exhibition.

This showcase exhibition at Ilminster Arts Centre presents a selection of new and recent work by Somerset Art Works Members responding to the challenges of the national Lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. Many artists’ practice shifted or changed completely at this time as exhibitions were cancelled or postponed and artists explored new ways of making work in isolation. Through different projects set up by Somerset Art Works, and two mainly digital Open Studios events, SAW Members responded to ideas around safety, nurture, familiarity, wellbeing and community in their work.

Springing Forward

Delighted to be part the Springing Forward exhibition for Create Magazine curated by Gita Joshi.

“The question remains for all of us—how do we move forward in a time like this? Each artist included in Springing Forward does not give us answers to this question, but instead beautifully offers us possibilities. These scenes of interior life, intimate spaces, contemplative figures, and proud portraits capture the hopeful potential in continuing our daily rituals and sustaining ourselves, as we move forward towards challenging changes and necessary growth. Each painting, collage, or mixed-media piece is a starting point, a place to begin, a possibility for perseverance on one’s own terms.”
